Andrea Godin

This is Chas from Atlantic Radio Uk and I’m here to interview the wonderful and talented Andrea Godin

Hello Andrea thanks for taking the time to do this interview and to let all the Atlantic Radio Uk listeners about you and your music.

Chas - Can you tell the listeners where you’re from?

Andrea - I’m from the small town of St. George, Ontario, Canada, but I definitely belong in a big city. I do a lot of work on music in Toronto, I love it there so much and plan on moving there soon!

Chas - When and how did you first become interested in music?

Andrea - I’ve always loved music my whole life, but I began taking lessons and performing at the age of 11. Nothing really caused me to become interested in music because the interest has just been there all along.

Chas - How long have you been playing music?

Andrea - My first performances were at the age of 11. I’d perform at local community events and contests. My first larger gigs and shows began around the age of 15 or 16 which is when I really started taking music seriously with writing, performing, promoting myself, and everything that comes along with being a recording artist.

Chas - Does anyone in your family play music?

Andrea - This is the funny thing. Everyone says “You must have such a musical family” when they hear or see what I do, but the strange thing is no one in my family is musical at all so we’re not sure where my musical abilities came from!

Chas - What are your musical influences?

Andrea - I listen to many different genres so I have many influences, but when I bought my first Destiny’s Child CD I was very influenced by their music. They’ve definitely played a huge part in the urban/pop sound I have in my music. Other influences include Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, and many more!

Chas - If you could sing with one artist or band who would it be and why?

Andrea - I definitely would love to sing with Beyonce. I look up to her so much and she’s amazing at what she does. It would be an awesome experience and I know I would learn so much.

Chas - What kinds of places have you played music so far?

Andrea - I’ve played at tons of different venues and events throughout my career. The highlights would definitely be the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and The Nightlife Dinner Theatre in Nashville. I also regularly perform at high profile clubs and events in Toronto which have been some of my favourite and most exciting shows so far.

Chas - If you could play one venue in the world where it be?

Andrea - I think pretty much every artist’s dream is to play at a stadium or arena, even if it’s as an opening act. When it comes to shows that’s the ultimate goal for me. I love performing on big stages with lots of room to perform and with a great crowd and I’m doing everything I can to make that happen!

Chas - What else do you do besides play music?

Andrea - Music is the majority of my life. When I’m not doing music I’m usually just with my friends hanging out and listening to music, shopping, going out. Just normal stuff like that. If it’s summer I’ll most likely be at the beach in my spare time, I love the hot weather!

Chas - Were you influenced by old records & tapes? Which ones?

Andrea - I remember listening to Aerosmith a lot when I was really young. Another one that stands out is “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston. I remember singing that song all the time.

Chas - Who are your favourite musicians? Groups? CD's?

Andrea - There are so many different musicians that I love and look up to other than my influences. I’m really into EDM music so I love artists such as Avicii, Calvin Harris, etc. Then there’s completely opposite genres/artists that I love such as Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe, and musicians like that. I have favourite musicians in every genre. I also just listened to Rita Ora’s new album and I can’t stop playing it!

Chas - Have you been in competitions?

Andrea - I’ve been in many competitions throughout the years. I’ve been titled “Brantford Idol” as well as “St. John’s Idol” both near my hometown. Recently I’ve been focused on writing, recording, & performing my original material but I’m sure soon enough I’ll be doing more competitions.

Chas - If you have played any venues, do you get nervous before a performance?

Andrea - I’ve been performing for 11 years and I still get nervous before every performance. I don’t think that will ever go away. I get nervous because giving a good performance every time is so important to me so of course there’s a little bit of pressure, but it’s good pressure and I’m always so excited to get on stage.

Once I’m on stage the nerves disappear, waiting to go on stage is the nerve racking part.

Chas - What advice would you give to beginners who are nervous?

Andrea - Try not to over think your performance. I’ve found that that’s when you mess up. When don’t think too much about it, it just feels so natural being on stage and the audience will notice that.

Chas - How often and for how long do you practice?

Andrea - I practice every day for at least 2 hours. I don’t even really consider it practice because it’s just part of my day and it’s just something that I HAVE to do in order to feel like my day is complete. I enjoy doing it so much!

Chas -  Where do you hope to be in say 5 years or more?

Andrea - In 5 years I know I will have accomplished SO many things and so many goals that I have. I hope to go on tour, be on radio more consistently, work with even more great artists and people I look up to. There’s so much I want to do it would take me forever to list it all!

Chas - If listeners want to get in touch with you or want to hear more of you music how can they get in touch?

Andrea - I love connecting with listeners and people who enjoy my music! Listeners can simply contact me on Facebook, Twitter, and any of my social media sites. It’s always great to communicate with everyone!

Chas - Is there anything you would like to say to the wonderful Atlantic Radio Uk listeners?

Andrea - Look out for my upcoming single “Hot Summer” ft. Jesse Burke May 1! I am beyond excited to share this song with everyone and it’s gonna be a great song for the summertime! We will be releasing the music video shortly after the single’s released so join me on Facebook, Twitter, etc, to stay updated. I also have some super exciting new projects that will be out after the “Hot Summer” releases so stay tuned! J

I would like to thank you Andrea for taking the time to do this interview and everyone at Atlantic Radio Uk and the listeners wish you all the best in the future and we hope to have you back on Atlantic Radio Uk.
